No sun, no problem.
Lack of windows or dark floors/walls can really take a toll on us! But start thinking of things you can control, and you’ll be on your way to a brighter home.
1. Replace your blinds with curtains.
Even if you only have a couple windows or don’t get good light, you can maximize the sunlight you do get. Do this by removing your blinds and putting up some sheer curtains!
Read my post here on how to remove vertical blinds.
2. Furnish with light colors, accent with dark, for a brighter feel.
You don’t need to sacrifice your personal style or taste –– not everyone wants a home full of light shades. But it’s about balance. For the larger pieces in your home, try to stick with lighter and brighter shades. Use darker tones to accent and add contrast and depth.
3. Decorate with warm hues and/or energizing colors.
Don’t get enough sun outside your window? Bring those colors inside! Decorating with warm hues or energizing colors (like splashes of blues or even greens) can eliminate the doom and gloom.
4. Use mirrors to reflect light for a brighter home.
Mirrors reflect the little light or sun you may get in your home and helps to illuminate your space.
Use a large mirror in your windowless/dark bathroom, prop a full length mirror in the corner of your bedroom, or add bigger, statement mirrors in other rooms to add style and light!
Don’t let renting or living in a small, dark space intimidate you! You can do this and achieve a home filled with warmth and light! Think positive (and brighter).
