Our first dinnerware set as newlyweds were these cheap ceramic bowls and plates. They were so affordable at that time in our lives and we thought nothing of it. Fast forward to cracked plates and scratched surfaces, and we realized there was a reason why more expensive dinnerware existed. There’s a time and a season for affordable dinnerware, but eventually that season passes 🙂
If you’ve been wanting to upgrade and refresh your dinnerware for the new year, there’s no better time than now! I absolutely love love my Fable dinnerware and we’ve been using them for a few months now. Here are some of my favorite pieces and why!
How they’re made.
Honestly, the background and creation of every Fable piece is why I have such a big connection to them.
Fable’s ceramics are made from “locally sourced recycled ceramics, and clay from just a few miles up the road” in Portugal. Their materials are free of lead and other heavy metals, and any remaining ceramic scraps are recycled into concrete. They even recycle the water they use, ensuring a zero-waste production from start to finish.
They’re dedicated to working towards a completely sustainable and zero-waste company, and are already well on their way in that mission with total eco-friendly packaging and a 100% zero-waste facility. I’ll be honest–– I didn’t use to care about these kinds of things, but now I realize how much better I feel about being a consumer of goods that are good to the earth! It’s made me much more aware of what I purchase and also what I use daily.
It sounds sappy, but when I use my Fable dinnerware, I think about how these pieces used to be other pieces of ceramics, and how this is like their “second life”. I really love how unique every piece is.
Neutral and earthy dinnerware with an organic touch.
Probably my favorite thing about Fable’s dinnerware is the organic quality they have. The White Speckled color also has…speckles! You know I love those. They also have dinnerware in Blush Pink, Dove Gray, and Midnight Blue.
No two are alike. They all have their own little curves on the edges, “perfection imperfections”, and that lovely balance of modern and earthy.
Sturdy and durable dinnerware.
These are and feel high-quality, ya know what I mean? They have a good weightiness to them and don’t retain any scratches on the surfaces, etc. They’re also really easy to clean. A word of caution: for the first few washes, the surface is a little bit slick and slippery, so just be careful and don’t let any slip or drop!
I also love that it’s easy to stack Fable dinnerware, whether it’s plates, pasta bowls, cups, mugs. They’re the kind of plates you use everyday but also want to show off. They’re also microwave and dishwasher safe (and oven safe up to 450ºF!), which I didn’t expect but is a really pleasant feature!
Honestly these are all very easy to care for and I’ve never had anything wrong happen to them just by handwashing–– but in case you want to know more, they have a whole page dedicated to caring for your Fable products.
My favorites.
Pasta Bowls
My ultimate favorite from Fable are their Pasta Bowls. They are SO versatile and the best size for pasta, rice bowls, breakfast, salads, and on and on. They’re also the prettiest shape, IMO!
Salad Plates
These Salad Plates are my second-most-used Fable dishes. They’re just the perfect size for breakfast toast, fresh-baked cookies, or a serving of cheese and crackers. I always reach for these for any of those smaller meals or in-between snacks.
Flatware Set
These are definitely on the pricier side of flatware but WOW ARE THEY PRETTY 😍 This Flatware Set is gorgeous and worth the investment for flatware that will stand the test of time without rusting or staining.
Why invest in expensive dinnerware?
I am well aware of the fact that these are on the pricier side of dinnerware. But there are a few reasons why I think they’re worth the investment:
- They’re designed for long-term use.
If these were cheaply made, I wouldn’t pay a high price for them. But Fable dinnerware is the most high quality dinnerware I’ve even had (in my whole life, sorry Mom haha), and I know they are meant to last years and years.
Think of it this way: do you want to pay $50-75 a year for new dinnerware that you need to replace constantly, or do you want to invest in $250 for Fable dinnerware that you will be able to keep around for years, maybe even decades? - They have that artisan quality.
Each piece is made with intention. I am finding that I’m more and more excited about items in my home (whether dinnerware, decor, or furniture) that I feel connected to. When I know something has been recycled or handcrafted, it just has something extra special to it that no other mass-produced dish does! - They’re good to the earth.
I think what we consume and where it’s from should matter to us. I love knowing that my dinnerware is sustainably made and that Fable is aiming for a zero-waste future. This means you can fill your shelves with Fable and not regret 🙂
Have any questions about Fable? I’d love to help answer them! All in all, I’m really happy with our dinnerware and we’ve slowly donated the rest of our old dishes. We’re all in for Fable!
